Taylor, Catherine Louise

Catherine Louise Taylor, 88, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Jackson Manor, where she resided since December 2011.

She was born June 26, 1923, in Jackson, daughter of Vera G. and Zelma Catherine Talley Taylor.

Louise was a 1941 graduate of Jackson High School. She received a bachelor's degree from Southeast Missouri State University and a master's degree from Columbia University in New York. She briefly studied in Europe observing Montessori schools.

She was an art teacher serving the Missouri school system 37 years. She began her teaching career in Holland, Mo., and also taught in Union and Springfield, Mo. She served her final 21 years of teaching in the North Kansas City School District.

After retirement, she purchased a house in Hardin, Mo., where she lived several years until returning home to Jackson. Louise remained active, creating artwork and exhibiting pieces in various venues throughout the community.

Louise was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson and active in the Joy Choir until ill health hindered her involvement. She was the artist of the original rock wall used in the annual Easter pageant at First Baptist Church. She was a member of Chapter DJ, PEO in Jackson and a former member of the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri.

Loving survivors include a brother-in-law, Charles Ford of Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, the Rev. Robert Taylor; a sister, Sarah "Sally" Brown; twin sister, Lucille Ford; a sister-in-law, Sarah Taylor; a brother-in-law, the Rev. Guy Brown; and a young brother.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. May 26 at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Tommie Weems will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Grant Gillard.

Cremation services provided by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Jackson.
