Thiele, Edwin George

Edwin George Thiele, 81, of Jackson passed away Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 15, 1924, in Leopold, Mo., son of the late Fred W. and Lena Elfrink Thiele. He and Evelyn Holweg were married Aug. 17, 1946, in Leopold.

Ed was a finish carpenter for Penzel Construction Co. over 25 years until his retirement in 1988. He was a skilled woodworker, craftsman and avid gardener.

At any time, Ed could be found in his workshop, creating treasures from the local woods of Missouri, whether white oak, red oak, birch or cedar.

When a grandchild visited Grandpa, he would enlist the helping hands in his latest project.

He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and Bishop Timon Council 6405 Knights of Columbus in Jackson.

Loving survivors include his wife of 59 years; five sons, Edwin P. (Doris) Thiele, and Rick Thiele of Jackson, Larry Thiele of Cape Girardeau, Tim (Cindy) Thiele of Benton, Mo., Chuck (Donna) Thiele of Panama City, Fla.; five daughters, Angie (Ken) Mirly of Issaquah, Wash., Gerrie (Don) Sandin of Jackson, Jody (Richard) Hahn of Advance, Mo., Diane (Lee) Moore, and Nancy (Rick) Stearns of Perryville, Mo.; four sisters, Irene Stoverink, and Hilda (Albert) Beussink of Jackson, Helen (Harold) Beussink, and Betty (Fred) Beussink of Leopold; two brothers, Glen (Ethel) Thiele, and Stanley (Rose Ann) Thiele of Leopold; 13 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four infant sons, and a brother-in-law, Alphonse Stoverink.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Parish prayers will be at 7, with a rosary immediately following, led by Bishop Timon Council 6405 Knights of Columbus.

Funeral Mass will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, with the Rev. Bill Huggins officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Immaculate Conception Building Fund.
