Ulrich, Elwood

BOURBON, Mo. -- Elwood Ulrich, 80, formerly of Whitewater, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at his home in Bourbon.

He was born July 31, 1931, at Whitewater, son of the late Walter and Mary Biri Ulrich. He and Rosa Mae Hale were married Oct. 24, 1953, in Morley, Mo. She passed away Sept. 23, 2009.

Elwood attended grade school in Whitewater. He worked at the former Saveway Oil Co. in Scott City, delivering gas for 17 years; the former Eli Walker Garment Factory in Scott City for seven years; and retired from the Cape County Road District in 1996. He also drove a school bus for the Delta School District for several years.

He was a member of the Whitewater United Methodist Church for many years and was a lay speaker at various community churches. He was a past worshipful master and member of the Whitewater Masonic Lodge, a past worthy patron of the Whitewater Eastern Star, a 32 degree Scottish Rite member, and a member of the Southeast Missouri Shrine Club.

Loving survivors include a daughter, Linda Gilles of Bourbon; two granddaughters, Christy (Horace) Halbert of Cuba, Mo., and Shanna (Bob) Hawn of Salem, Mo.; four great-grandchildren; two nephews, Danny Hale of Cape Girardeau and John Hale of Jackson; and a family friend, Greg Peak of Bourbon.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, with a Masonic service to be held at 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Don Kuehle officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
