Unger, Edith Maxine (nee Seabaugh)

Edith Maxine Unger, 82, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at her home.

She was born Feb. 13, 1929, in Jackson, to Arlus J. and Mabel L. Talley Seabaugh. She and Cecil J. Unger were married Aug. 17, 1947. He passed away Aug. 8, 1993.

Edith was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Jackson. She was instrumental in all aspects of church work and held leadership positions in WMU and Children's Sunday school. She chaired many committees through the years and was president of the corporation of First Baptist Church.

Loving survivors include four daughters, Clarinda Unger of Jackson, Lanette (Jerry) Whitford of Warrensburg, Mo., Suzanne (Mike) Flowers of Russellville, Ky., Cynthia (Herb) Campbell of Lexington, Ky.; a sister, Jo Ann (Milton) Kasten of Jackson; three grandsons; two granddaughters-in-law; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Evelyn Byrd.

Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Tommy Weems officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Jackson WMU, the American Cancer Society or Southeast Hospice.
