Vinyard, Samuel C.

Samuel C. Vinyard, 90, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011, at his home in Jackson.

He was born Aug. 31, 1920, in Jackson, to Charles and Mary Louise Steimle Vinyard. He and Nora Marie Niswonger were married July 18, 1942, at First Baptist Church in St. Louis. They were blessed with three wonderful children.

Sam was a 1941 graduate of Jackson High School. He honorably served three years in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was a master plumber by trade. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post No. 158 and VFW Post No. 10495, all in Jackson.

Loving survivors include his wife of 68 years; two sons, Wayne (Nina) Vinyard of Glenwood, Wash., Max (Gayle) Vinyard of Gilroy, Calif.; a daughter, Mary (David) Wright of Gilbert, Ariz.; five grandsons, Bob, Stephen, Andrew, and Jonathan Vinyard and Tom Wright; three granddaughters, Joy Vinyard, Ivy and Katy Wright; four great-grandsons, Sterling and Brandon Roberts, Skylar and Ryan Vinyard; a great-granddaughter, Carrie Beals; a sister, Dorothy (Ralph) Dunn of Allentown, Pa.; a nephew, Harry Skinner; and a niece, Terri Lee Phillips of San Diego.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert VanderVeen; two brothers, four sisters, and his parents.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tommy Weems officiating.

Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with full military honors.

Pallbearers will be Wayne and Max Vinyard, David Wright, Harry Skinner, Douglas Wessel and Don Niswonger.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to First Baptist Church or Southeast Hospice.
