Waldrup, Raymond A. C.

Raymond A.C. Waldrup, 93, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, June 10, 2013, at Southeast Hospital under Southeast Hospice care in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 26, 1920, in Millersville, to Alvin Chester and Lulu Vesta Niswonger Waldrup. Ray and Margie Reynolds were married Sept. 6, 1942, in Fort Riley, Kan.

Ray served his country in the Army from July 1942 through the end of World War II. He was in the ordnance division and was in the campaigns starting in Northern Africa, then into Italy and France and on to Germany. He was awarded four Bronze Stars for these campaigns and a Good Conduct Medal.

He was the front-end alignment mechanic at Ford Groves for more than 40 years. After retirement, he was a driver several years for Ryder. He was a charter member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, where he served as usher several years. Ray also was a member of VFW.

Ray loved to fish. He was also considered a master gardener by his neighbors, friends and family. He served as a "roadie" for his wife, Margie, during her volunteer playing at the Missouri Veterans Home, and when she played in bands. Another love was RVing. Ray made many trips with his family from the early 1960s up to the age of 86.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Margie, of 70 years; a son, Lonnie Waldrup of Kelso, Mo.; a granddaughter, Bridget Waldrup Benson of Yankton, S.D.; a brother, Cecil Waldrup, of Springfield, Mo.; a sister, Jo Ann George, of Houston; three great-grandchildren, Parker, Cayden and Collin; and beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Clayton Mark Waldrup; his parents; two brothers, Bill and Truman; and a sister, Beulah.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, and prior to time of service Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Short of St. Andrew Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park with military honors by the Missouri Honors Team.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Andrew Lutheran Church Preschool Playground or Statewide Mission Trips, 804 N. Cape Rock Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO, 63701.
