Walter, Calvin G.

Calvin G. Walter, 79, of Jackson died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at Jackson Manor.

He was born Feb. 13, 1925, at Campbell, Mo., son of Gilbert and Eva Fleming Walter. He and Lorene Lincoln were married June 13, 1947.

Calvin was inducted into the U.S. Navy July 9, 1942. He was a signalman second class and received a Purple Heart due to injuries sustained in World War II. He was honorably discharged Nov. 2, 1945.

Calvin was a minister 45 years. He was instrumental in the establishment of Westside Church of Christ in 1976, and ministered there several years. He was a building inspector 19 years for the city of Jackson, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lorene; two daughters, Trisha Wischmann and husband Gustav, and Judy Leigh Walter, all of Jackson; a brother, Tom Walter of Boise, Idaho; and a sister, Charlene Pollard of Piggott, Ark.

Also surviving are three grandsons, Richard Wischmann of O'Fallon, Mo., 1st Lt. Derek Wischmann of Fort Hood, Texas, Warrant Officer One Ashley Wischmann of Cape Girardeau; two great-grandsons, Gus Anthony and Brent Matthew Wischmann; and a great-granddaughter, Maggie Rose Wischmann.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Roy Gene and Phillip Walter; a sister, Marie Schrader; two infant sisters; and a granddaughter, Natasha Wischmann.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with Paul Farmer and Kelly Francis officiating. Burial will be in Cook Cemetery at Scopus, with graveside military honors.
