Wampler, James Eldredge

James E. Wampler, 82, of Du Quoin, Ill., died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Ill.

He was born March 13, 1925, at Crump, son of Omer O. and Ora V. Crump Wampler. He and Lena Crader were married in May 1947 at Whitewater. She died June 27, 1959. He then married Bonita M. Bigham July 6, 1966, at Du Quoin.

Wampler retired as an electrician with Consolidated Coal Co., working at the Kellogg Dock 10 years. He retired in 1982. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Du Quoin and UMWA.

He was a seaman first class U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific.

Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Glenda Sizemore, Vickie Fletcher and Bonnie Harrison, all of Du Quoin, Connie McMillan of Elkville, Ill., Sherry Norris of St. Louis, Becky Dollus of Tampa, Fla.; two sons, Ronald Wampler of Surprise, Ariz., and Rodney Wampler of Smith River, Calif.

Also four sisters, Evelyn Vancil of Du Quoin, Gloria Proffer, Janice McClard and Janene Givens, all of Jackson; two brothers, Narvel Wampler of Jackson, Wayne Wampler of Sherman, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and a granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at First Baptist Church in Du Quoin.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Joe Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.
