Weissinger, John William

John William Weissinger, 70, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at his home.

He was born May 25, 1944, to Roland and Katherine Fornkohl Weissinger in Cape Girardeau. He graduated from University High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam. He received the Rifle Badge Marksman, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation and the Armed Forces. Expeditionary medals. He was member of VFW Post 3838.

John was a riverboat captain for Luhr Bros. more than 35 years, retiring in May 2012.

Survivors include three daughters, Eve E. Andres and Jackie L. Carattini of Cape Girardeau and Katie Sheppard of Fredericktown, Missouri; three sons, John W. "Will" Weissinger II of Marble Hill, Missouri, and Charles P. Weissinger and Robert D. Weissinger of Cape Girardeau; 23 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren,

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a grandchild.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. John Schlager officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military honors by the Missouri Honors Team and VFW Post 3838.

Memorial contributions may be given to VFW Post 3838.
