Welker, Selma "Sally" (nee Dockins)

Selma “Sally” Welker, 95, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Monticello House in Jackson where she had been a resident for nine years.

She was born April 4, 1917, in Scopus, MO, daughter of Ira S. and LaVada Killian Dockins. She and Columbus “Clum” Welker were married September 8, 1934 in Marble Hill, MO. He passed away December 20, 1973.

Sally was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson since 1943, where she worked in the nursery for many years, and was a member of the Ladies’ Circle. She worked for the former P.N. Hirsch, the former Rozier’s, and in the fabric department at Wal-mart in Jackson. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother when her boys were young. Sally was recognized as an accomplished, much sought after seamstress. She had the knack of seeing a dress, especially prom and wedding dresses, and creating a look-alike without a pattern.

Loving survivors include; three sons, Allen (Patsy) Welker of Festus, MO, Dee (Vicki) Welker of Jackson, Charley (Cora Sue) Welker of Monroe City, MO; a daughter, Draunda Bening of Jackson; a sister, Velma Hartwig of Jackson; two half brothers; two half sisters; 12 grandchildren, Lisa Schnur, Annette Ellenberger, Rick and Kevin Welker, Kim Younce, Deborah Pensel, Susan Niswonger, John and Joe Bening, Greg Welker, Gwendelyn Macomber and Aaron Seabaugh; two step-grandchildren, Todd Rayburn and Jennifer Headd; 26 great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianna Seabaugh in 2009, four brothers, a sister, and a half brother.

Friends may call Monday, February 4, 2013, from 4-8 PM at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, at 10:00 AM, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating.

Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to New McKendree UMC Memorial Fund or charity of your choice.
