Earl Winder, 76, of Jackson passed away Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, where he had lived the past year.

He was born Dec. 23, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, son to Robert and Nettie Niswonger Winder. He and Corletta Jacobs were married in Osceola, Ark.

Earl was inducted into the U.S. Army in November 1948. He was a field medic and trained troops. His overseas tours included Germany, Korea and Vietnam. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Ribbon. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant first class in December 1968.

After his military service, the family resided many years in Jefferson City, Mo., where Earl managed an appliance store. They then moved to Lake of the Ozarks where he worked as a marina manager. They have lived in Jackson the past several years.

Loving survivors include his wife; two sons, Dennis (Sandy) Winder and Darrell Winder of Holts Summit, Mo.; three daughters, Rita (Billy) Bridges and Boni Wagers of Jefferson City, Debbie (Mike) Ainolhayat of Raleigh, N.C.; two brothers, Paul (Joyce) Winder of Crystal City, Mo., Charles (Charlotte) Winder of Jackson; two sisters, Patsy (Charlie) Green of Advance, Mo., Peggy McClain of Delta; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and James Winder.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of service today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Eddie Dodson officiating. Full military honors will follow. Burial will be private at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jefferson City.

Pallbearers will be Kim Winder, Derric Winder, Devvin Winder, Jason Wagers, Dustin Ainolhayat, Jason Niswonger and Kevin Winder.

The family suggests memorials to Missouri Veterans Home, Southeast Hospice or your favorite charity.
