Wolfenkoehler, Dale Kenneth
Dale K. Wolfenkoehler, 93, of Jackson passed away Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 30, 1921, in Jackson, the son of William "Fritz" and Annie Harriet McBryde Wolfenkoehler. He and Carrie "Edna" Lange were married Dec. 25, 1947, in Millersville.
Dale was a lifelong member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson, where he was past president of the church council. He was a veteran of World War II, enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1944. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After returning from service, he enjoyed working on the family farm and helping local neighbors on their farms with livestock as well as crops. He worked at the former Jackson Hosiery Mill, and worked for a short while as a cook on the barge lines. He was a truck driver for the Cape Girardeau Meat Packing Plant for several years, was a regional insurance agent for Reliable Life Insurance Co. for 25 years and was a real estate agent, retiring in 2002. He was a former board member for Southeast Hospital, former 4-H leader in Pocahontas and a former member of the Marine Corps League of Cape Girardeau. He was a member of the Jackson Rotary Club, Altenthal- Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau, Excelsior Masonic Lodge 441 in Jackson and the chapter of Scottish Rite Valley of St. Louis. Dale was an avid supporter of the Jackson Indians, attending many baseball, football and basketball games. He and Edna volunteered at the veterans home and had a large garden. They especially enjoyed growing strawberries and potatoes, often sharing the fruits of their labors. Dale worked hard and wore many different hats in his lifetime, but most of all, he was a most wonderful husband, dad and grandfather.
Loving survivors include his wife of 67 years, Edna; three children, Judy Mouser of Cape Girardeau, Susan (Clay) Brown of Florissant, Missouri, and Rick (Cheryl) Wolfenkoehler of Sikeston, Missouri; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Wolfenkoehler, on Sept. 2, 2010; five brothers, Sherman, Willis, Sherwood, Dewey and Nelson Wolfenkoehler; and a sister, Maggie Crites.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m. followed by an American Legion service.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Revs. Mindy Kiepe and Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with full military honors.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau or Emanuel United Church of Christ.
