Wolfenkoehler, Dewey Lester

Dewey Lester Wolfenkoehler, 90, of Jackson died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 25, 1919, in Jackson, son of Fritz William and Annie McBryde Wolfenkoehler. He and Lillian Elizabeth Yancey were married Dec. 5, 1943. She preceded him in death June 25, 2008.

Dewey served in the U.S. Army with the 368th Harbor Craft Co. during World War II. He was stationed in Luzon, Phillippines.

He worked at the former Kimbel Truck Lines body shop in Cape Girardeau and for Landgraf Lumber Co. also in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson and was a life member of Clippard, Wilson, Taylor VFW Post 3838 of Cape Girardeau, and a member of the Silver Jubilee Teamsters Retirees Club.

Survivors include a son, Robert Wolfenkoehler; a brother, Dale Wolfenkoehler; a sister, Maggie Crites; a granddaughter, Brandie Peterson; and two great grandsons, Alex and Casey, all of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his wife; four brothers, Sherman, Willis, Sherwood and Nelson; and a daughter-in-law, Debra.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating.

Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson with full military honors. Memorials may be made to Emanuel United Church of Christ and to Apple Creek Church.
