Wulfers, Joy (nee Swindle)

Joy Wulfers, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, April 5, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 7, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo., to Halbert G. and Betty Jo Williams Swindle. She and John Wulfers were married July 26, 1948, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death Sept. 18, 1987.

Wulfers was of the Catholic faith. She was a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell about 20 years. She then worked as an operator in the communications department at Saint Francis Medical Center. She was also a volunteer at Saint Francis.

Survivors include two sons, Ron Wulfers of Denver, Hal Wulfers of Branson, Mo.; two daughters, Joyce Streiler and husband Gary of Jackson, Diana Hinchey of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren, Rachel Hinchey, Brandon Streiler and wife Julie, Derek Streiler, Benjamin Hinchey, Eric and Justin Wulfers; two great-grandchildren, Anthony Wulfers and Isabella Streiler.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the family of Joy Wulfers.
