Yancey, Robert Roy

Robert Roy Yancey, 87, of Jackson died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 20, 1918, at Pocahontas, son of Robert Theodore and Jesse Maud McLard Yancey. He and Mabel Overbeck were married Dec. 5, 1942, in Gulfport, Miss.

Mr. Yancey graduated from Fruitland School in 1935. He was a transport driver with Shell Oil Co. 34 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church, VFW Post 3838, and vice president of Apple Creek Presbyterian Memorial Association.

He was in the U.S. Army Air Corps from June 1941 to October 1945, and was a staff sergeant with the 8th and 15th Air Force, serving in England and Italy.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Roger (Darlene) Yancey of Evans, Ga.; a daughter, Donna (Mike) Rushing of Jackson; a sister, Lillian Wolfenkoehler of Jackson; four grandchildren, Carmen (Mike) Cox, Todd (Julie) Rushing, Marsha Yancey, and Warren (Lauren) Yancey; and five great-grandchildren, Colby and Austin Rushing, Matthew, Gunnar and Gracyn Cox.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wilbur Orville "Jack" Yancey and two infant brothers; and a sister, Mattie Hockenberry.

Friends may call at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Rice and the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Apple Creek Presbyterian Memorial Association.
