Young, James K.

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- James K. Young, 83, of Perryville died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Scripps Green Hospital in LaJolla, Calif.

He was born March 17, 1922, in Perryville, son of Edward C. and Adelheit Palisch Young Sr. He and Marie Tackaberry were married Sept. 2, 1942.

Young had been an owner/operator and funeral director at Young and Sons Funeral Home Inc. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville and its Usher Society, American Legion Post 133, VFW Post 4282, charter member of Perry County Wildlife Chapter, committee chairman of Perry County Lake, member of National Wild Turkey Federation and was a past president of Perryville Lions Club.

He received the Missouri Conservationist of the Year award in 1973 and served as president of the Conservation Federation of Missouri from 1976 to 1977. He won National Conservationist of the Year in Washington, D.C.

Young served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He received the rank of lieutenant colonel, receiving the European/African/Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbons with eight Bronze Stars, the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters and the Presidential Unit Citation. He was the pilot on a two-engine 1051.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary "Dee Dee" Pagenhart of LaJolla, Calif.; and a brother, Edward Young Jr. of Perryville.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Friends may call at Young and Sons Funeral Home from 1 to 9 p.m. today, and Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Christopher Cole officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
