Zahner, Clarence J. "Speedy"

SILVER LAKE, Mo. -- Clarence J. "Speedy" Zahner, 88, of Silver Lake died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at his home.

He was born Sept. 3, 1922, at Silver Lake, son of Henry and Viola Maddock Zahner. He and Beatrice "Bea" Hudson were married Dec. 26, 1943.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters and five sons, Cassie and Charlie Courtois of Imperial, Mo., Joe and Joyce Zahner of Perryville, Sandy Bratcher of Fenton, Mo., Wayne Zahner and Dennis Lytle of Silver Lake, Bobby and Grace Zahner of Perryville, Mike and Brenda Zahner of Silver Lake, Kenny and Pam Zahner of Silver Lake, Patty and Joe Anderson of Fenton, Diane and Keith Geile of Silver Lake; two sisters, Lee Ann Adams of St. Louis, Lucille Bauman of Ste. Genevieve, Mo.; 24 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Herman, Norbert and Jerry; and a sister, Madeline Cosgrave.

Zahner was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

He was a retired farmer. He was a member of and served on the Parish Council and Cemetery Committee of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church at Silver Lake more than 50 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 133, Knights of Columbus Council 1263, MFA and Perry County Nursing Home Board.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 6:30 to 9:20 a.m. Monday at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville. The parish wake will be at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Rose of Lima Church, with the Rev. Milton Ryan and the Rev. Alphonse Hoernig concelebrating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military burial rites by American Legion Post 133 and Missouri Delta Team.

Memorials are preferred to St. Rose of Lima Cemetery Fund or Masses.
